What we believe.

The Well of Nashville is a different kind of church community. Here is the mission, the objectives, and the whole creed — in plain words, nothing buried.

Mission statement

Our goal as a church is to have gatherings for all people to come and experience times of refreshing in the Lord’s presence, without a fixed agenda or programme. We respect, honour and make no judgements about what God does in other denominations or meetings. The focus is on worship, the Word, prayer and action — all found in a life of intimacy with Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Ministry objectives

We want the Lord to move freely at The Well so all who come receive from Him. We set this time aside to worship and bless the Lord, and to honour Him for who He is, not for what He gives. We believe Jesus is the Wellspring of Life — He said those who drink of His living water will never thirst again. We invite all who come to drink deeply, and experience the risen Christ.

The creed

We believe…

Fifteen statements. Nothing hidden behind a login or a PDF.

  1. There is one God — infinitely perfect and eternally existent in the persons of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  2. In the eternal deity of the Lord Jesus Christ — His appearance on earth through a virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His death to take away the sins of the world and restore right relationship with God, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal future return to earth in power and glory.
  3. In the present ministry of the Holy Spirit — by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. We believe in the fullness of the Holy Spirit as the empowerment of the Christian for witness and service, and that all the gifts of the Holy Spirit are operative in the church today.
  4. The Bible is the Word of God — Holy Spirit-inspired, authoritative, and eternally reliable.
  5. Salvation is by grace, through faith — in our Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance toward God, faith in Jesus, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are necessary for salvation.
  6. In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost — those who are saved to eternal life, and those who are lost to eternal separation from God — heaven and hell.
  7. In one universal church — that is the body of Christ, of which Christ is the head and all who are born again are members. The church’s purpose is worship to God; fellowship, ministry and instruction to itself; and evangelism and service to the world. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers.
  8. In baptising believers by immersion — in obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ.
  9. In the importance of the Lord’s Supper — and emphasise that believers should gather regularly to partake of it — remembering the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord, and celebrating the new covenant with God and each other as we anticipate His glorious return.
  10. In the ministry and presence of angels, and the reality of satan and demonic beings — We believe in the legitimacy of spiritual warfare, and that we have been given authority over all the power of the enemy concerning individuals, families, cities and nations.“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” — Luke 10:19
  11. In the sanctity of life — celibacy for singles, sexual purity for all, and the sacredness of traditional marriage.
  12. Jesus Christ has called both men and women to the ministry of God’s word and power — Though men and women have differing roles, women are to be encouraged and released in the ministry of the church, including public ministry as God leads.Galatians 3:26–29
  13. In God’s continued calling on Israel — and we accept a calling to comfort, encourage and stand with the Jewish people throughout the world.Romans 1:16; Romans 11:11–26
  14. When Jesus ascended He gave spiritual gifts to His people — enabling some to serve as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers, for the purpose of equipping the church and bringing the body of Christ into maturity — and He continues to give these ministry gifts today.Ephesians 4:1–11
  15. God has entrusted His church with the ministry of reconciliation — and we must be proactive in tearing down dividing walls based on racial, socioeconomic or denominational background.2 Corinthians 5
